| Shortwave is an award winning production company based
in Southwark, south London. Recent projects include live camera
directing in the Ballroom at Lost Vagueness in Glastonbury,
running an outdoor cinema on the Aylesbury Estate in Walworth,
managing the first Bermondsey Street Festival and Elefest,
the Elephant and Castle annual arts festival.
We also produce our own short films, run training workshops
for socially excluded groups and provide AV production and
equipment hire for clubs and events across London. Our debut
short, 'Race' was nominated for best London film at the inaugural
short film festival at the ICA in January 2004.
Staying true to our founding ethos, the outdoor cinema on
the Aylesbury, organised as part of the A-List festival, provided
a platform for emerging local talent and a live Q & A
session with award winning film-maker Don Letts.
Elefest, organised by NEON and directed by Rob Wray (Shortwave),
is now in its fifth year. It aims to celebrate the cultural
and creative diversity of the Elephant and Castle, mixing
classic cinema with the new and the international with locally
produced short films. The festival has now expanded and includes
live music, dance, photography and literature.
Since launching in 1999 our activities include hosting the
VIP Tent of the Dance Arena at Glastonbury, curating a selection
for the Portobello Film and Video Festival, organising an
outdoor preview screening of "Celebrity Bubble"
in Borough Market and providing content for the launch parties
of the magazines Theme Park and Marmalade. We have also hosted
the premiere of Irvine Welsh's short film 'Dose'.
Alongside organising festivals and production we have also
been facilitating practical film/video workshops in partnership
with community groups and projects throughout South London.
2008 will see the opening of a permanent base for Shortwave
in the shape of a digital cinema, cafe bar and production
facility within the Bermondsey Square regeneration scheme.
